Lessness Heath is a GOOD school with OUTSTANDING features – December 2017
Letter from Headteacher
Dear Parents and Carers,
Firstly, we would like to thank you for your support during the recent Ofsted inspection on 5th and 6th December 2017.
We are extremely proud to say that after a rigorous two days of observations, discussions, book looks, data reviews and interviews, Ofsted have found Lessness Heath to be a GOOD school overall with our Early years and Personal Development and Welfare to be OUTSTANDING.
We are delighted by their recognition of the good progress our children make and of the good and outstanding teaching that takes place at our school. We are particularly gratified for the comments about our wonderful children.
Ofsted stated ‘Pupils behave with consideration and care. They look out for each other and are fully involved with school life.’ Also ‘Pupils expressed extremely high opinions of their teachers and explained how the levels of challenge they experience helps them to learn and make progress. Pupils’ good attitudes to their work and interest in learning also support the good progress that they make.’
We are pleased Ofsted recognised that ‘Teachers plan well for pupils of different ages and abilities in the classes. They make good use of questioning and follow up pupils’ answers well.’ Also ‘Teaching assistants ensure that there is effective support of the different groups of pupils in class. They also provide very effective support to individual pupils, including those with profound learning needs. This ensures that all pupils are included very well in all lessons and make at least good progress.’
In recognition of our Leadership team Ofsted quoted ‘The head teacher’s drive and strategic vision have been instrumental in bringing about rapid school improvement. The Headteacher, with the support of the trust and the governing body, has created a strong and resourceful leadership team. Leaders are determined to make this new school as good as it can be. All leaders have established their expectation that high aspirations, as well as good teaching and behaviour, are the rule.’
There are so many quotes I could put into this letter so it makes sense to just take some time to read the full report that accompanies this letter.
We have all worked extremely hard over the last two years and the journey has been an extremely rewarding one and we can see the positive benefits of this throughout the school. OFSTED’s recognition of this achievement through the awarding of a ‘Good’ judgment is a positive validation of all our effort. We are now looking forward to continuing the journey and building on our success.
I would like to thank the staff and Governing Body for their hard work over the last few years and their commitment to providing a good education for the children of Lessness Heath. Their commitment to make our school as good as it can be is inspiring. We would also like to thank the children and parents for their hard work and support. Your input into the inspection was overwhelming.
Please take the time to read the report through and celebrate with us.
